Play and Learn

🌿 Why We're Starting Roots & Wings Outdoor School

As a parent, teacher, and lifelong lover of nature, I’ve always believed that children learn best when they are curious, free to explore, and connected to the world around them. That belief is the heart of Roots & Wings Outdoor School, a place where young children can grow, explore, and thrive—both in nature and in character.

The idea for this school started from a simple observation: children today spend less and less time outside, yet nature is a natural classroom that teaches patience, resilience, creativity, and compassion. I wanted to create a space where learning is hands-on, where children develop a sense of wonder, and where the lessons they carry with them extend far beyond the walls of a classroom.

Roots & Wings is built around a simple philosophy:

  • Roots give children a strong foundation—values, community, and connection to God and nature.

  • Wings give them the confidence, curiosity, and courage to explore the world, try new things, and grow independently.

Benefits for Children

Through outdoor exploration, storytelling, hands-on projects, and guided observation, children will:

  • Develop emotional intelligence: By observing animals, working in groups, and caring for nature, children learn empathy, cooperation, and patience.

  • Gain physical and cognitive skills: Nature encourages movement, balance, problem-solving, and creativity.

  • Strengthen character and values: Lessons are paired with biblical principles, giving children a moral compass alongside practical life skills.

  • Connect to the natural world: Experiencing nature firsthand instills respect, wonder, and a lifelong sense of stewardship for the environment.

Benefits for Families and the Community

Roots & Wings also offers benefits that extend beyond the children themselves:

  • Parents gain peace of mind knowing their children are learning in a safe, nurturing environment that values both education and character.

  • Families become part of a supportive community that shares similar values and a love for the outdoors.

  • Children who learn in nature often become more confident, engaged, and compassionate members of their community—skills that benefit society as a whole.

Starting this school is more than opening a classroom; it’s about planting seeds. Some will grow deep roots, some will sprout wings—but all will flourish in their own way. I believe that when children are given the freedom to explore, the guidance to grow, and the encouragement to care for others, they become resilient, compassionate, and joyful individuals.

Roots & Wings Outdoor School is my dream brought to life—a place where children don’t just learn about the world, but learn how to love it, care for it, and thrive in it. I can’t wait to welcome your children to this journey of growth, discovery, and wonder.
